Symbol journal
Build up company research and your own trading rules one symbol at a time. Unlike the daily journal, it gathers everything you learn about a single symbol over months into one document.
What the symbol journal is
It is the Symbol journal tab inside Journal in the sidebar. Pick a symbol on the left and its document opens as an A4 page you can write on freely. You can also open a specific symbol directly with ?symbol= in the URL. It is available on every plan.
The other tab in the same menu, Daily journal, follows a single day from plan to review. The two differ in what they organize around, and neither replaces the other.
Symbol list
- Added automatically — Any symbol you log in the trade log appears in the list on its own, along with its trade count and win rate.
- Wallet groups — Symbols are grouped by wallet and collapsed; only the group of the symbol you are viewing expands.
- Add a symbol — Use Add symbol to track something you have not traded yet and start research ahead of time.
- Tags — Label symbols your own way — semis, dividend — from the header of the document.
Note pages
The first page starts writing right below the symbol header (symbol, wallet, last trade, tags). Use the rich editor — headings, tables, lists — for research, trade ideas, and the rules you mean to follow.
- Automatic A4 flow — When content outgrows a page it flows onto the next one. Tables break at row boundaries and the header row is repeated on the next page.
- Page controls — Insert a blank page between any two pages, and move or delete each page.
- Auto-save — There is nothing to save by hand. Your writing is saved shortly after you pause, and anything still pending is saved when you switch symbols or leave the screen. The time of the last save is shown under the document.
Memo templates
Picking a template from the Memo templates rail on the left appends it to the end of the last page of the current document, so it never breaks the flow with a new sheet.
- Current stats— Drops in a table of this symbol's total P&L, win rate, payoff ratio, and trade count as they stand right now. The numbers written into the document stay put even as later trades change them.
- Built-in and your own templates — The same templates as trade log memos. Save the layouts you use often and pull them up anywhere.
Importing from the trade log
Bring what you already logged for this symbol into the document. Choose by range (all, last month, last 3 months, or a custom range) or entry by entry — and once imported it is just text you can edit freely.
- Import trade memos — Pulls in the review memos you wrote in the trade log, with their dates.
- Import trade history— Pulls in a table of date, side, entry, exit, quantity, P&L, and R. Long tables are split row by row by the automatic A4 flow.
How it connects
- Trade log — The symbol list, the memos, and the history all come from your trade log. The more consistently you log, the thicker the symbol journal grows on its own.
- Reports — In the report builder you can pick a symbol journal and place it into the report as it is (reports are a Premium feature). See the reports guide.
Good to know
- The symbol journal is available on every plan.
- Whatever you write in the notes is stored encrypted on the server.
- Live prices and charts are not available yet. Every number in the document is computed from the trades you logged.
